Debunking Geothermal Myths

MYTH #1:  Geothermal energy is extremely expensive with a poor Return on Investment.

FACT:  This may have been true years ago, but modern methods make geothermal systems one of the top energy performers today.  Return on Investment is about three to five years; however, this can be as little as two years for a heating and cooling system.  Typical savings range from 50 to 75 percent of a building's current energy bills.  ...READ MORE

Simple and Inexpensive Actions Could Reduce Global Warming Emissions by One Billion Tons

(From Energy Facts: National Resources Defense Council-March 2010)

The US is the world’s 2nd largest emitter of global warming pollution. Changes in our personal actions are critical to any successful effort to impact climate change. Simple yet significant steps we can take to help protect our health, communities, and planet are:

  • Transportation:  Fly once less per year; carpool when possible; maintain vehicle properly; reduce motor vehicle idling
  • Household Energy:  Fix leaks and heat loss spots by updating caulking, weather-stripping, attic insulation; use programmable thermostat; shut-off unused electronics more often; set computer to ‘hibernate;’ turn off unneeded lights
  • Food:  Consume less red meat and dairy; waste less food
  • Consumption and Recycling:  Recycle whenever possible; consume paper and plastics more responsibly.

For detailed information on the foregoing, and more, go to National Resources Defense Council-March 2010 to learn why, and just how much, taking each of these steps will impact reduction in global warming.
